Become a mob and do battle in the new second season of Minehub

Wraithzeon 2 October, 2025 4 minutes read

Public minigame server Minehub has just launched its second season, including a brand new minigame, new game maps, and more.

For Season 1, the server hosted six minigames: Parkour Tag, Spleef Royale, One Shot, Build Battle, Survival Games, and Pacer.  Now, Build Battle is being sunset, and replaced with a brand new game: Mob Mayhem.

Fighting game Mob Mayhem allows players to pick a mob to play as, with each option having a unique set of abilities that can be activated through the hotbar, and then battle their opponent.

“As a kid, I fell in love with a game on Mineplex called Super Smash Mobs,” co-owner and lead game designer Barkz wrote in the season’s release notes.  “I loved it because it felt very unique in a time in Minecraft history where there was not a lot of opportunity to make games outside of Minecraft’s core mechanics.  When we first started working on Minehub, I had always wanted to work on a game that gave people the opportunity to play something similar to what I grew to love and enjoy. […] I wanted to make it into a game that felt good to play, felt unique from the original inspiration, but still gave homage to the original work that I grew up with.”  This appears to have been a success, with Mob Mayhem quickly became a favourite amongst the server’s playtesters.

The custom fighting system blends v1.8 and post-Combat-Update combat.  “[There’s] a big focus on smooth hits with abilities bypassing damage ticks,” the season’s release notes reveal.  “This allows for fun combos for each mob while not feeling like the game is solely reliant on high clicks per second. […] The combat system also reworks how knockback works, opting for a system where the lower health a player is, the more knockback they take. However, different mobs have different armour values which impact knockback.”

Mob Mayhem will launch with eight mobs: bee, chicken, creeper, drowned, enderman, iron golem, piglin, and slime, who will do battle across three maps: Autumn, Soul, and Oasis.

“My personal favourite mob is the chicken,” server owner tingz tells us.  “It has an ability where it shoots out a tiny baby chicken.  You have to use your crosshair and actively aim it like a homing missile to hit other players.  Additionally, unlike most mobs it has three double jumps instead of one.  It makes it really hard to get knocked off the map.”

The other minigames have also been shown some love through new maps and improvements.  Spleef Royale, a version of spleef in which players can collect blocks for bridging and towering, is getting a new “Retro” map.  Players can now get a new item to auto-collect blocks, and the new “Lasers” random game event will target the player at the highest point in the map, destroying the blocks beneath them.

Parkour Tag, which sees players taking turns hunting each other to earn points, is receiving a new map called “Dizzy Dropper”.  This features an under-construction urban building which focuses on verticality.  For crossbow arena shooter One Shot, the new “Launch Arena” map will focus heavily on launch pads.  Pacer, a mash-up between a parkour course and a battle royale, now has several new easy courses, in addition to updates to some of the more advanced courses.

Meanwhile “Ruined Forest”, the new Survival Games map, will feature villages, pyramids, and a massive temple for players to explore.  “My favourite new map has to be Ruined Forest,” tingz says.  “It’s probably our most detailed map yet.  There are tons of trees covering the entire map, making it hard to know when another player is coming – which in really competitive games is nerve-wracking.”

The Minehub server has also seen some overall changes, including to the economy, with an overhaul to the number of coins earned through different minigames.  Ray, the cosmetic-eating monster, has been removed for Season 2 to bring more focus to the auction house mechanic, which provides a potentially cheaper option for new players to get their first cosmetic.  There have also been some visual changes, including new “victory” and “game over” animations.  For more details, you can read the full patch notes for the start of Season 2 here.
