All roles are volunteer roles.
We’re open to both people wanting to write for us regularly (in which case your first article or two will be on a trial basis), or as a one-off.
Researcher / Writer
This is usually a joint role, though we’re also open to people who are only interested in one or the other!
RESEARCHER RESPONSIBILITIES
- Research topics through existing sources such as websites, social media, Discords, and video content.
- Carry out exclusive research through your own enquiries, interviews, gameplay, or photoshoots.
- IF RESEARCHER ONLY: Compile your research, including links to your sources, ready for a Writer to take over.
WRITER RESPONSIBILITIES
- Either carry out your own research (as above), OR take over research prepared by a Researcher.
- Write articles in an engaging and informative way.
WHAT YOU COULD BE WORKING ON
We publish articles with a variety of topics and formats, all based around Minecraft in some way. If you want to be doing quick-fire articles to get the word out quickly, you could be working on Breaking News. If you prefer to get more in-depth with exclusive research such as interviews and surveys, or would prefer more relaxed deadlines, you could work on our Showcase articles.
FLEXIBILITY
Whilst the roles are in general fairly flexible, you will need to be willing to work with the Editor-in-Chief to help create a strong and balanced programme of content. This means whilst you can choose your own topics / projects and set your own deadlines to some extent, sometimes certain topics may be unavailable or have fixed deadlines. For example, time-sensitive news will need to be covered before it loses relevancy, seasonal content needs to fit the season, and content needs to not duplicate or clash with recent or upcoming content. You will also need to keep the Editor-in-Chief informed of any issues or changes of plans (e.g. if you can no longer write an article you said you would).
REQUIREMENTS (BOTH ROLES)
- Aged 16+ (18+ preferred).
- Clear written English.
- An eye for a good story.
- Critical thinking and research skills.
- Thorough with good attention to detail.
- Receptive to feedback and constructive criticism.
- Able to work to journalistic standards of honesty and integrity.
