Lumamon is recruiting players for the upcoming season of this SMP set in the world of Pokémon. We spoke to owner Lumastar to find out more!
“For Season 3, we’ve updated our current Lumamon modpack with a bunch of new mods that will feel like a refreshingly new and smoother experience, while still feeling like the same Lumamon environment from previous seasons,” SMP owner Lumastar, or Luma, tells us. This includes the additions of a number of Pokémon features that have been highly requested by the Lumamon community – including mega evolutions (for the uninitiated, that’s a temporary power-up for a Pokémon), terastallization (temporarily transforming a Pokémon to increase damage dealt by particular moves), and use of TMs (items that allow you to teach a Pokémon a new move).

It’s not just Pokémon battles and the more competitive side of the server that has received an update, however, with the server accommodating for a range of different interests and playstyles within the world of Cobblemon. “We have also added some different building mods, fun gimmicks, and character customisation, to add some fun new features for the casual Pokémon enjoyer,” Luma says.
“My goal with Lumamon is to create not only a fun Cobblemon Minecraft experience for the server members, but I also strive to create a sense of community and make it a comfortable and welcoming environment,” Luma tells us. “Despite it being a content server, it is incredibly community driven, with a large focus on player interaction. I want to make everyone feel immersed and enjoy their experience, and I’ve been told during previous seasons that it feels less like a Minecraft server and more of an open-world Pokémon game, bringing a different experience to the Cobblemon scene.”

With all the new changes, this new season (or “Generation” as it’s referred to, to tie it into the Pokémon universe) is sure to bring with it new challenges for its players. “I’m excited to see who our gym leaders will be, and to see how server members interact with the new mods, new Pokémon, battle gimmicks, and much more,” Luma tells us.
The server will start on 1st December, and run until the end of January. “We have the entire event schedule planned for our two-month timeline, with some fan favourite events returning, a bunch of new creative events that the admin team has put a lot of work into brainstorming, and even an exciting upcoming collab,” Luma says. “I always look forward to the tournament that wraps up each Lumamon Generation, and with the new competitive features, the tournament will look extremely different. I look forward to seeing what the outcome will be, and if our currently reigning two-time champion will finally be overthrown.”

While a large number of Lumamon’s members and audience are based in Oceania (Luma being from New Zealand herself), applications are open globally. “There are a lot of accommodations to still provide the best experience to people who are from other regions of the world,” Luma says. “Many of our planned events taking place throughout the two months will be hosted twice, a session hosted by myself, and repeated again with one of my UK or US admins. This is to ensure that people don’t miss out on any of the exciting events we have organised because of time zones. I first-hand understand the struggles of being located in a time zone that has incredibly inconvenient event times.”
The server itself, however, is hosted in Australia. “The SMP and event space doesn’t have many projects that are catered towards OCE creators,” Luma explains, “and I’m excited to be one of the few that does so, to give opportunities to a part of the Minecraft space that sometimes slips under the radar.”

A number of factors will be considered when the Lumamon team look through applications. “We are looking for people who are passionate Pokémon and Minecraft fans, are inclusive and kind, would collaborate with our community well, and be a good fit amongst our members,” Luma explains. “Numbers and statistics are not something we look at when choosing members, but instead about whether we think you will fit the vibes of the server.”
“I am incredibly excited to see all the work me and my wonderful admin team have put in for the last few months come to life,” Luma says. “We have a bunch of exciting plans lined up, and I have absolutely poured my heart and soul into the project, and hope that this generation will be the best generation of Lumamon so far!”
You can apply to join Lumamon here. The application form will close this Saturday 15th November, at 9am GMT / 4am EST. You can stay up to date with news about the SMP – including a 24-hour and 1-hour warning of applications closing – on the Lumamon X.
