MC Showdown, or Showdown, is a Minecraft minigame tournament that re-debuted last summer after a long hiatus. Now, going into 2026, we spoke to event owner Chazzagram about how far the event has come, and what’s in store for 2026…

“Showdown’s re-debut blew all of my personal expectations away, with the small community it was brought up with before its indefinite hiatus in 2023 supporting its return,” Chazzagram tells us. “The positive response from the community was incredible to say the least!”
Since the original event series in 2023, the event was completely redeveloped in Java, making the code easier to maintain and continue development on. Now, it contains a mixture of new and old minigames, alongside an assortment of new features which were added to gamify any down-time between the main minigames.

“The main priority of Showdown’s development was to innovate and bring something fresh and new to the community which hadn’t been experimented in quite the same way before, all while keeping to the traditional format of Minecraft events,” Chazzagram explains. “From the gamification of ready checks, to the interactivity of the voting system, to introducing games which combine different gameplay elements – such as Bridge Builders’ combination of movement and building – we tried our best to create a new experience shaped around the feedback of the players, which served as a vital factor in ensuring the event was enjoyed all round.”
“With Showdown continuing to improve and develop after two main events and two charity events, we’re looking ahead at the future of what we want Showdown to be and what we want to bring to the community,” Chazzagram says. Now, a shift in focus of development for their third main event, Showdown #3, comes following feedback from players. “Watching back VODs and reading over feedback has to be the most enjoyable thing to do after an event. It offers a different perspective that as an organiser I value greatly.”

“I have heard a lot from different players asking whether game order matters in this event, and what purpose voting serves in the entire scope of the event,” Chazzagram tells us. “Currently it only serves as a minigame between modes, which on its own isn’t a bad thing – but certainly can be improved with the implementation of a point multiplier. With the implementation of a point multiplier, the order of which the games are played will now serve a purpose to the finishing result.”
“While the point multiplier is going to be a factor in the event’s finishing result and the game order, the game order will also play a deciding factor in the event’s finale game, debuting in Showdown #3,” Chazzagram says. “Players will be required to think strategically about what order they wish to play the games in.”
The point multiplier and finale game aren’t the only new additions to the upcoming event, with some brand new minigames to look forward to as well. “We’ve experimented with different playstyles and competitive games throughout Showdown’s history – some more traditional, while others are more custom to the event,” Chazzagram says. “Currently for Showdown #3 we’re aiming to introduce two brand new modes.”

The first of these has been codenamed ‘CC’. “If we had two words to describe this game, we’d have to say ‘Social Game’,” Chazzagram reveals. “This mode works off a traditional format of a much loved, or rather mixed feelings game, but we’re experimenting and finding ways to innovate it from its base concept, and find the most enjoyable experience we can make out of it!”
The second new minigame is codenamed ‘PP’. “This mode takes a traditional round-robin format of play,” Chazzagram says. “We’re really utilising newer elements of Minecraft’s development tools and API to create an experience which is highly intense, strategic with teamwork, and high stakes. I’m very excited to share this concept, although it’s currently proving a very challenging concept to form together.”

“We really hope this move closer toward a traditional event format will push Showdown to be a greater experience which the community will enjoy – and we appreciate all the support and patience during this development phase,” Chazzagram says. “With many more opportunities on the horizon entering 2026, we’re super excited to get things kicked off!”
Showdown #3 is expected to begin in late February / early March. You can stay up to date with news on X at @MCShowdownTeam, or in the Showdown community Discord.
