MCBC devs reveal the event’s future for 2025

Wraithzeon 28 December, 2024 4 min read

Minecraft Bedrock Championship has hosted their annual Devcast. The show was presented by TitaniumZombie (the event’s “Director Of Fun”, Quality Assurance, and Game Developer), who was joined by the rest of the Production Team: SladerProductions (the event’s Lead Developer and Owner), PrimeStrat (Game Developer and Server Performance Manager), and Natty Ducks (Game Developer, Event Production Assistant and Social Media Manager), later also joined by beanrollup.

The Devcast started with a discussion of what happened in 2024, before moving on to a Q&A session. This was followed by the reveal of the MCBC Game Of The Year, as voted for by the MCBC community, and some announcements about the future of MCBC.

MCBC Game Of The Year

Battle Royale, Gauntlet, Gold Runners, Rift Race, Build Arena, Spleef, Relic Raiders, Overrun, and Cactice were pitted against each other for the title of MCBC Game Of The Year. The title was won by Relic Raiders, receiving 13 votes (40% of the total). This had a strong lead over Spleef, which took 2nd place with 5 votes. In third place was a tie between Rift Race and Gauntlet with 4 votes each.

Gridlock

Upcoming PvP game Gridlock, which was originally announced in the 2023 Devcast, has received a development update. The builds are now finished, with the game just waiting on completion of the code.

Gridlock is described as “Sky Wars meets Meltdown” – referring to a version of Sky Wars similar to that on the Hive / Galaxite servers, and Meltdown from MC Championship. Instead of playing over the void, players will fall to a lower layer where they will take damage, but still be able to tower back up. Gridlock, once completed, will be replacing one of the existing games, to retain the format of eight games plus a finale.

Rift Race Maps

A revamp of the “Oceans” map for Rift Race was also announced, including new routes, as well as adjustments being made to existing routes. The aim of this is for the map to flow better, whilst removing some of the more “tedious” sections.

More maps for Rift Race have been teased to be in development.

Mid Season #3

Mid Seasons are MCBC events that anyone can apply for. Applicants need to apply with a premade team, with an application video (similar to how MCC Rising works).

The third MCBC Mid Season is expected to be in the first half of 2025, and will have coaches (similar to in MCBC: Java Jam).

TZBC

A teaser trailer was shown for TZBC or “TitaniumZombie Bedrock Championship”, which will be happening some time in 2025. This will be a non-canon event for the main roster, in which TitaniumZombie takes over the event to “take this season off the rails”.

New Public Map Releases

Mucca Bucca Studios, a Minecraft Marketplace team made up of some of the MCBC developers, has announced two public upcoming map releases for Bedrock.

“Horde” is a PvE survival game that can be played with up to four friends, and will be free to play. It features five kits to try out: Wizard, Scout, Engineer, Brute, and Sniper.

Horde is set to release today (28th/29th December 2024), with the link expected to be posted in the MCBC Discord.

Also coming up is the Bedrock map release for “Infinite Parkour Gauntlet” (IPG). This is a randomly generated course, with hundreds of parkour types and difficulties. The release date has not yet been announced.

Trailers / video teasers were shown for both of the map releases, so make sure to check out the Devcast on catchup to watch them!

Mucca Bucca Studios, the Minecraft Marketplace team, will also be rebranding in the future due to the additions of PrimeStrat and beanrollup to the team.
