Active enthusiasts of Minecraft events may recognise BlockFest, an event that successfully redefines the party spirit of Minecraft minigames, bringing dopamine-filled disaster survival in Ramp Up, a deafening extravaganza in TNT Toss, and a childhood favourite in Hot Potato Blitz, amongst other games. After a short break, BlockFest is determined to refurbish its gameplay to better satisfy both its players and viewers. Consequently, the event must slow its pace.

BlockFest is taking a step-by-step approach to continued development, prioritising high-quality, polished event updates – including some new minigames – over pushing out new content or events at a high frequency. This change in pace reflects the feedback the team was given while managing the event. “We’ve learnt our lesson on rushing projects and its adverse consequences,” event organiser DanKoRy tells us. “Changes will be slow, but they will be more methodical.”
Through the recent and upcoming developments, DanKoRy and their team wish for BlockFest’s experience to be enhanced, yet not lose its familiarity. In the next BlockFest, anticipated to be in late July, players may notice “minor gameplay changes and additions”, alongside a “detailed points breakdown” given as a spreadsheet file that they will be able to use for analysing their performance after the event should they wish. In fact, this points breakdown has already gained favourable reception by prior BlockFest game night hosts.

In addition, staff applications for the event are open, with available volunteer roles including in playtesting, community, game design, art, and more. “We’re looking to expand our team to make BlockFest as best as it can be,” DanKoRy says.
In the era of rapid information and an ever-growing event scene, it is up to event organisers to decide whether to stay competitive through rapid expansion or through increasing the value of their player experience, and BlockFest chooses the latter. There is no right or wrong, but the confidence in BlockFest’s decision would hopefully translate to a positive trajectory of the event. “We’re excited to return to events,” DanKoRy says, “and hope players and viewers alike will appreciate the changes we’ve slowly been making.”
More information about BlockFest can be discovered through the event’s Discord, and the readers can follow @BlockFestMC on X / Twitter for updates and event announcements.
