Those that have played a lot of Minecraft are probably familiar with crafting a firework rocket, such as for use with an elytra to get around. However there is also so much more that can be done with these silly little rockets that can improve your Minecraft world, and create a great experience for you and your friends. If they seem a little too complex to try and craft, here’s your guide to making all the different firework patterns available in Minecraft!
EXPLOSION COLOUR
The two main ingredients for a firework star are gunpowder and any type of dye, which already creates an amazing colourful explosion for your celebration needs. You can add up to eight dyes into the firework star.
FADE TO COLOUR
Once you have crafted your firework star, you can add up to another eight dyes, which creates a “fade to colour” effect for your firework. Just imagine all the pretty colour combinations!
SHAPES
Next you can add a little bit of flair to your firework. There are four different things you can add to vary the explosion size and shape. Adding nothing will give you the standard ball explosion, but adding in a fire charge will create a larger ball explosion.
If the classic ball explosion doesn’t appeal, you can use a gold nugget to turn the explosion from a ball shape to a star shape. Any type of mob head can also be used, instead changing it to a creeper face shape. Finally, a feather can be used to create more of a burst explosion.
Only one of these modifiers can be added at a time, but that’s where the two additional effects come into play…
TWINKLE AND TRAIL
Glowstone dust or a diamond can be used on their own, or even together, to add additional effects. The glowstone dust creates a twinkle or sparkle effect as the firework fades out, whilst the diamond makes a trail effect of each colour as it slowly falls.
Adding these different variations for shape, twinkle and trail does mean you lose out on some of your colour options, as the crafting slots are taken up by non-dye items. However, they do add variety and help to create an amazing show!
COMBINATION FIREWORKS
Another trick you can do is add multiple firework stars into one firework rocket – making so many more possibilities!
If you added a lot of your effects into one firework star, and lost out on some of the colours you wanted to add, you can make an extra star with the missing dyes. Or if you wanted to combine a star shape and creeper face into one, you can do that too.
The possibilities are (nearly) endless – according to the Minecraft wiki, there are 29,617,272,331,290,537 (29.6 quintillion) possibilities for unique firework stars!
