BlockFest reveals new minigames for tomorrow’s Season 2

Wraithzeon 24 January, 2025 3 min read

Ahead of tomorrow’s Season 2 launch, minigame tournament BlockFest has revealed not one, not two, but THREE new minigames!

With three new games for players to get to grips with, here’s a quick guide to how to play them all!

New minigame: Punch Out

The first new minigame is BlockFest’s take on Hole In The Wall gameplay, which will surely be familiar to the MC Championship / MCC Island fans… or those who remember the 2008-2009 British TV gameshow.  In this version, players must make the holes themselves!

Each team stands on their own platform, with walls coming towards them.  Players can shoot the red wall sections with arrows to break them, then walk or jump through.  Fail to break the wall and move through the gap in time, and the player will be flung from the platform.  The last team standing takes the victory.

Points are awarded by breaking wall sections, surviving walls, fully breaking all the red wall sections, outliving other players or teams, and of course being the last one standing.

New minigame: Hot Potato Blitz

An older BlockFest game returns in this high-speed remake.  Players must pass the hot potato around and avoid being tagged by its current holder.  Hold the potato too long, and the player will explode!

Each round lasts for two minutes, with jump and speed pads assisting with movement around the map.

New minigame: Finale Game

BlockFest hasn’t previously had a finale game – but that’s about to change!

In “Energy Tag”, the two teams who have collected the most points will battle it out with “energy spears”.  Players can collect energy that spawns every so often around the map to charge their spear.  Charged spears can then be used to eliminate other players.

The first team to three wins will win the entire event and become BlockFest champions!

Other changes

New minigames aren’t the only changes that BlockFest has made.  Season 2 will also be bringing a new lobby, new parkour, a rework to Season 1 minigame “Ramp Up”, an updated firework show to start the event, and a host of other improvements.

An additional feature being added are billboards, found in the lobby, finale game, and parkour.  “We added them not only for us developers to hide silly jokes on, but also to highlight team-made, or community-made, custom graphics during the event!” DanKoRy, one of the event’s owners, told us.  “We think that this will add some much needed interactivity between the community and contestants with the event itself.”

“The thing we’re most looking forward to about the new season is how the community will react to the big changes we’ve made,” DanKoRy said.  “BlockFest was quite literally built from the ground up this season, and we’re excited to see how the community will react to the whole thing!  We’ve already seen lots of positive reactions to BlockFest 10’s teams, and we hope to see more of these when they play the event.”

The first event of the new season will take place Saturday 25th January at 4pm GMT / 11am EST.  Teams have been announced on BlockFest’s X and Bluesky, as well as in their Discord.
